Description

Management of TMD and Orofacial Pain will assist providers in identifying and treating the majority of orofacial pain that presents in clinical settings. Lipton et al. indicated over a 6-month period that 22% of the US population reports at least one type of orofacial pain. These patients are yearning for improved treatment and for their providers to really understand their condition. The course includes describing TMD diagnoses, available treatments for TMD diagnoses (performed by a variety of providers), cervicogenic and tension-type headaches, and finally what is called Axis II evaluation which is how to specifically evaluate psychosocial components of orofacial pain. This course has very little emphasis on red flag findings, TMJ biomechanics, and epidemiology.
