Description

Neuromusculoskeletal Ultrasound Imaging – Basic Training Course is designed to provide participants basic level knowledge, skills, and clinical competency in the use and interpretation of point-of-care ultrasound imaging for the non-radiologist, including assessment and implementation of sound scientific principles in ultrasonographic evaluation of patients with neuromusculoskeletal conditions. Upon completion participants will have the necessary skills to immediately integrate ultrasound imaging into clinical practice.

This hybrid course includes asynchronous online content (pre-course) and in-person lectures/discussions, live scanning demonstrations, and scanning labs. Course consists of 24 total contact hours (12 online, 12 in-person) providing time-efficient delivery of content maximizing practical, hands-on training to develop scanning technique and image acquisition under instructor guidance with live patient models. Pre-class preparation includes readings, recorded lectures, and assessments on the following topics: neuromusculoskeletal anatomy, normal and abnormal sonoanatomy, pathological concepts, instrumentation, basic physics, common artifacts, scanning protocols, image labeling, report writing, and coding/billing. In-person training will focus on demonstration and performance of basic scanning techniques and scanning protocols of all major peripheral joints and soft tissues, image optimization, identification of relevant sonoanatomy, landmark recognition, sonopalpation, interpretation of findings, and integration of ultrasound imaging into clinical practice.

Disclaimer:  This course session may be canceled if the minimum enrollment is not reached. Students may register after the September 30 online portion start date. Registration will close on October 30. Per the RMU PEAKS Con Ed Cancellation Policy, “In the event that RMU cancels a program/offering, registrants will be refunded the full amount paid.” Contact con.ed@rmu.atlassian.net if you have any questions.
